PACE Co- rapporteurs on Armenia John Prescott and Georges Colombier yesterday welcomed Armenian authorities' response to their call for a "roadmap" to put into effect the reforms recommended in the aftermath of the March 2008 election violence.
The Armenian National Congress (HAK) urges its proponents not to be displeased with the Co- rapporteurs' approval of the authorities' decision.
"The Co- rapporteurs spoke in a normal diplomatic language. A process has started in the Council of Europe which defines CoE recommendations and demands to RA authorities. The CoE has given RA authorities a definite timeframe to implement reforms and surmount the political crisis in the country," HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan told A1+.
Remind that the Co- rapporteurs welcomed the authorities' readiness to carry out large-scale reforms in the country at the same time highlighting the implementation of the reforms.
"An important element has been added to the Co- rapporteurss statement. It suggests that the "roadmap" must be agreed upon with other political forces. I consider this as a vital achievement for us as the "roadmap" proposed by the opposition can be granted some status," said Mr. Zohrabyan.
"The authorities should listen to all suggestions. They must hold expanded consultations with the participation of oppositional forces. I think this is a great achievement. Our representative will raise HAK's concerns and proposals on the political crisis during the consultations. We are hopeful that our suggestions will be included in the final agreement.
The authorities imitate to be recovering the situation by some minor legislative amendments but the situation is much more serious. The political crisis is not overcome. We see no other solution to the problem except the conduct of extraordinary parliamentary and presidential elections after realizing major reforms."
