Yuri Vardanyan hospitalized

Yuri Vardanyan, a legendary boxer who serves as an advisor to the Armenian President, is now in the resuscitation unit at the Erebuni Medical Center, said Shushan Hunanyan, a spokesperson for the RA Ministry of Health.

A few days ago, Vardanyan suffered a break of the iron brace located in his thigh. The brace was placed in his foot after a major accident in October, 2010.

Vardanyan was immediately transferred to Yerevan where he underwent surgery but the operation was called off midway due to lack of oxygen flowing to the brain.

Kocahrians vs. “Zhamanak” daily, verdict to be returned on May 5

A Yerevan court today finished the hearing into a libel lawsuit filed by the family of Armenia's former President Robert Kocharian against "Zhamanak" daily.

Representatives of Kocharian's family did not agree to meet the newspaper halfway saying the paper continues demonstrating unconscientious attitude towards the family.

In a series of articles published in September, the "Zhamanak" daily claimed that Kocharian is involved in lucrative imports of pharmaceuticals and owns a chain of drug stores through his wife Bella. Citing an unnamed source, it also alleged that Kocharian's elder son Sedrak has purchased a diamond mine in India.

Vladimir Hakobyan’s score was the best

The big international chess tournament in Dubai is over.

Vladimir Hakobyan was the best among Armenia's 10 chess players after scoring 6.5 points out of the possible 9 and winning 11th place.

In the last round, he won Indian chess master Abhiban. Tigran Kotanjyan also ended the tournament with the same score and won 14th place.

Vladimir Hakobyan and Tigran Kotanjyan were awarded 1,200 dollars and 900 dollars respectively. Armenia's remaining chess players won the places from 28th to 62nd.

A MEETING OF ARMENIAN AND GEORGIAN MINISTERS TOOK PLACE

Today, Minister of Defense of Georgia Bacho Akhalaya arrived in Armenia at the invitation of the Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan.
 
A private talk between the two ministers took place, which was followed by a meeting of both delegations in an extended format. The results of the negotiations were summed up at a joint press conference.

Azeri jests stage exercises at Karabakh border

BAKU (Trend)—More than 10 fighters and military helicopters belonging to the Azerbaijani Air Forces are holding military exercises in a "front-line zone" close to Karabakh military forces.

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev has been stationed at the front-line zone near Nagorno-Karabakh since Wednesday, Trend News Agency reported.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroglu confirmed that the military was holding exercises and said the minister had been personally observing the exercises. Abiyev has also visited military units in the front-line zone and was familiarized with their military training.

Kajaran citizen transferred to Kapan hospital

A 15-year-old citizen of Kajaran city, diagnosed with jaundice, has been transferred to a Kapan hospital.

The child will receive treatment in Kapan as the local hospital does not have an infection department.

The child is under the care of physicians.
