The Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia has not interrogated Mikael Harutyunyan [ex-Defense Minister] and Seyran Ohanyan [former chief of the general staff of the Armenian Armed Forces] in connection with the March 1, 2008 deadly clashes in Yerevan.
Harutyunyan's elucidation on the bloody clashes given to the disbanded fact-finding group did not serve as a ground for the SIS to invite the former defense minister to an interrogation.
When Andranik Kocahryan, a representative of the fact-finding group, asked Harutyunyan why the army was involved in the clashes and whether he knew that the troops could be used only in case of war or external threat, the former defense minister said, "What do you ask me the question? I simply executed orders on that day."
When asked whether Harutyunyan's statement can not serve as a new basis to investigate the involvement of the army in the March 1 events, Vahagn Harutyunyan, head of the Special Investigation Service's Investigation Group, said Harutyunyan had not said anything new and extraordinary.
The investigation is ongoing. If they [the Armenian National Congress] have new facts that are worth studying, the SIS is ready to get familiarized with them," Vahagn Harutyunyan told A1+.
