Mayor’s Office takes another illegal decision

The opposition alliance Armenian National Congress (HAK) has submitted a notification with the Mayor's Office about a rally to be held at Liberty Square on February 18.

Speaking about the municipality's decision to sanction sports and cultural events at the square from February 15 to March 15, HAK Spokesman Arman Musinayan said it was illegal as a notice to the municipality is to be submitted no earlier than 21 days before the planned event.

HAK is going to resume large-scale political protests at the square. The opposition's major rally is scheduled for February 18 - on the eve of rigged presidential elections of 2008.

"If the city authorities do not sanction HAK's rally, we shall take corresponding measures," HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan said.

Since September 2010, the city authorities have rejected all notifications for different reasons; saying that the square was ascribed to some other event on that particular day and suggesting that the opposition gather at some other place.
