Vardges Surenyants' exhibition opens in Yerevan

"Art knows no nationality, but each nation has its art," said Armenian painter Vardges Surenyants. The words of the great painter define his art.

The National Art Gallery of Armenia today hosted an exhibition dedicated to the 150th jubilee of Vardges Surenyants. Surenyants had only one individual exhibition in his lifetime, which opened in Baku in 1901.

The exhibition comprises the entire collection of Surenyants' cultural heritage - 200 works of art, including canvases, graphic and theatrical paintings.
Vardges Surenyants was the first to introduce European elements into the Armenian art at the same time staying loyal to his sources. His unique and unmatched works are of national importance," said Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in his opening remarks.

The exhibition will be open to public from Saturday, November 27.
