Aliyev, Gul meet in Istanbul



The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey Ilham Aliyev and Abdullah Gul today had a meeting in Istanbul. The meeting was attended by a group of officials, included the ministers of foreign affairs and energy.

The diplomats focused on bilateral relations and the recent developments in the region and international arena.

Before that, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Elmar Mammadyarov and Ahmet Davutoglu discussed trilateral relations between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey as well as the reopening of the Armenian-Turkish border," Azerbaijani ANS reports. The ministers stressed the importance of deepening relations between Turkic-speaking countries
The meetings take place within the framework of a summit of the Turkic-speaking countries to ne held in Turkey on Sept. 16.

During the visit, Ilham Aliyev is expected to meet with Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
