Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan today talked about the subsequent gap in Armenian diplomacy, particularly the low level of Armenian-Czech relations.
The delegation led by Nikoyan paid a visit to the Czech Republic on May 11-18. According to the speaker, the delegation had a broad range of meetings and the reception was at a high level.
The Vice-chairman of the National Assembly informed that the discussions were mainly on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkish-Armenian relations and Armenian-Czech inter-parliamentary relations. The Armenian-Czech Friendship group is currently inactive and in general, Nikoyan stressed Azerbaijan's effective lobbying.
Was this another flaw of Armenia's foreign policy? What stood in Armenia's way of establishing inter-parliamentary relations? In response to that, Mr. Nikoyan noted that Armenia has created an Armenian-Czech friendship group, but it was impossible to create one in the Czech Republic due to the Azeri's effective work.
"Thirty percent of their petrol comes from Baku," said Nikoyan. According to him, this is what ensures the Czech Republic's pro-Azeri position.
According to Nikoyan, it turns out that the issues are also due to the change of the political elite in the Czech Republic. He also informed that there is a lack of information in the country and only after this meeting did high-ranking officials confess that Armenia's position was totally new.
During a meeting with the Armenian delegation, head of the Czech parliament's foreign relations committee even confess that they were not informed and that was why, for instance, the Czech Foreign Minister expressed an anti-Armenian position when talking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in Baku.
Nikoyan promised to try to fill in the gap. "We must centralize Armenia's minimum resources on foreign relations and defense," said Samvel Nikoyan in closing.
He also informed that an agreement has been reached to solve the issue of opening embassies in both countries, as well as the functioning of an Armenian-Czech Friendship group after the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic.
