Prison official accused of money swindling



The preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated against the head of the Security Provision Division of the "Sevan" penitentiary accused of money swindling under the pretence of bribery has been completed in the RA Special Investigation Service.

The preliminary investigation has revealed and confirmed that justice major V. Yeghiazaryan, the head of the Security Provision Division of the "Sevan" penitentiary, not having competence of hiring employees and supporting them, ensured the resident of Kaghsi village V. Virabyan to appoint the latter in the post of the junior specialist of the "Sevan" penitentiary and demanded 300.000 drams by abusing V. Virabyan's confidence. In March 2009 V. Yeghiazaryan received from V. Virabyan the demanded sum of money in his office.

Besides, V. Yeghiazaryan demanded money from H. Grigoryan, the resident of Hrazdan, in order to support the latter to be hired in the same division of the "Sevan" penitentiary and on 21 April 2009 received 300 USD in his office.

On the obtained evidence V. Yeghiazaryan has been charged according to the RA Criminal Code Article 178, part 2, points 3 and 5.

The criminal case has been sent to the Court of First Instance of Kotyak region for the detailed examination.
