RA First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan gave a short speech today because, as he said, his partners had already presented the objective of the rally in detail which was to attract the attention of the participants of the conference held by the International Federation of Human Rights in Yerevan to the fact that there are still political prisoners and persecuted in Armenia, as well as the intolerable situation facing democracy.
Nevertheless, Levon Ter-Petrosyan said he couldn't turn a blind eye to certain notable developments. According to him, the international community and international organizations have changed their ways of expression regarding political prisoners.
"Whereas until now different countries or international organizations used to avoid using the term "political prisoners" for Armenia and only used its definition, now they directly pronounce the term," said Ter-Petrosyan. He presupposes that this could be a warning to Serzh Sargsyan to prevent his possible evasion of the Turkish-Armenian relations and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to the first president, the next notable phenomenon is the unprecedented panic among government officials.
"The bandit regime has two reasons to panic: first, it is fully incapable of improving the economic state and realizes the growing danger of social dissent and secondly, it realizes the devastating climax of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement," he said.
Ter-Petrosyan predicts that Serzh Sargsyan will choose to sign a document and will soon hand the five regions demanded by the Minsk Group Co-Chairs in the form of an ultimatum to Azerbaijan on a platter.
"In that case, he can rest assured that the international community will give him if not the guarantee for keeping power, but at least his personal immunity and belongings."
Ter-Petrosyan also touched upon Robert Kocharyan's activity and said that the reason for Kocharyan's activity is not his concern about finding a way out of the difficult situation facing Armenia and Karabakh, but his concern about saving himself and his wealth. "He could care less about Armenia and Karabakh," said Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
"No matter from which angle we look at it, the bandit regime's wrecked ship is drowning in front of our eyes," says Levon Ter-Petrosyan, adding that everybody can see it, but: "The problem is that the bandit regime may take Armenia and Karabakh along as it drowns and that is something that has been and still is the major concern and pivot of actions for the Armenian National Congress. In this sensible state, we see ourselves in the role of controlling the damage, no matter how much the authorities don't respond to our sincere strive to establish national solidarity to face the challenges facing Armenia and Karabakh. At this decisive moment, missing out on the opportunity to win the people's heart by getting its support will be the short-sighted authorities most fatal mistake and the main reason for the miseries that they and the country will face."
Levon Ter-Petrosyan's speech was followed by a march.
