Speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia Edward Sharmazanov says Turkey's statements made during the meeting of heads of Turkey and Armenia in Washington are double and contradict one another.
"On the one hand, Erdogan says he sees no direct link between the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Turkish-Armenian relations and on the other hand, he says the Turkish parliament is not ready to ratify the Protocols at the moment. These statements must make intermediary countries, including the US, think in order to seriously pressure Turkey. Turkey must finally clarify whether it wants to ratify the Protocols or not. It can't continue speaking without results," said Sharmazanov.
Based on the Turkish Foreign Minister's statements, the NA Deputy, speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia Edward Sharmazanov got the impression that Davutoglu is dreaming. "Davutoglu mentioned that one of the most important points in the Protocols signed in Zurich was the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. I get the impression that Davutoglu is reading the Protocols for the first time. Let him show the word Nagorno-Karabakh there. He is dreaming and should come down to earth. The Turks must realize that nobody will let them stick their noses into the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. The Turks have a subjective approach. They have been showing financial support to Azerbaijan since 1991 and still have a subjective approach."
According to Sharmazanov, Turkey is killing time until April 24 and deemed it necessary to remind the Turks that the "April 24"s will not end with this coming April 24.
"Erdogan has announced that not one US president has ever pronounced the word "genocide", but he forgets that president Reagan used the word "genocide" in 1981. If 42 out of the 50 states have already recognized the Armenian Genocide, one day all 50 states will have recognized it."
The speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia didn't rush to say that the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations has failed or frozen.
"I can only say that Turkey says one thing and does something else. But the process has not frozen as long as the meetings continue. The Armenian side has made its position clear and has mentioned that Armenia is ready to ratify the Protocols after they are ratified by the Turkish parliament," said Edward Sharmazanov.
