Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Razmik Zohrabyan does not share ex Foreign Minister vartan Oskanian's opinion that we witness the repetition of 1998 in the talks over Karabakh and the situation can be recovered only through a power change.
"Mr. Oskanian has always surprised me. If he is not a foreign minister today, it does not mean he can criticize the present authorities. He was in our camp for ten years. Robert Kocharian, Vartan Oskanian and many others were in our ranks. Today we follow their policy though they criticize us as they are no longer in power. Why should we resign today?" wondered Mr. Zohrabyan.
The HHK deputy chairman is surprised that Vartan Oskanian speaks of power change more impertinently than the opposition. "I cannot understand what Mr. Oskanian is displeased with. Why should our teammate raise the issue of power change?"
On March 18, in an interview to A1+, Armenia's ex FM sounded displeased with the country's economic and political state, as well as Armenian-Turkish rapprochement and status of an Armenian citizen.
"I see no grounds for a power change. Moreover, I see no political crisis in the country while Oskanian says the moment for a power change has matured. Thanks God, the minor clashes of March 1, 2010 are left behind," said Razmik Zohrabyan.
Asked whether the clashes were really minor, the HHK deputy chairman said, "Yes, we had victims, needless victims, and to date we do not know who gave the order of shooting. In the international practice, masses frequently came into collision with riot police leaving innocent victims and neither the opposition nor the authorities were able to understand what had happened in reality."
Returning to Oskanian's concerns over the negotiations, Mr. Zohrabyan said, "The Republican Party is not the Godfather of the Madrid Principles. We inherited them from Robert Kocharian and Vartan Oskanian. Neither of them spoke of involving Karabakh in the talks but Serzh Sargsyan has been insisting on Karabakh's involvement for two years. "
After we reminded Mr. Zohrabyan that both the mediators and representatives of international structures say Karabakh was left out of the negations because of the Armenian side, in particular Robert Kocaharyan, Razmik Zohrabyan said, "Yes, we made a mistake but we are trying to correct it. Cannot a man correct his mistake?"
