The Armenian National Movement has been given the opportunity to personally raise its issues and those concerning the Armenian society in the PACE and the European Parliament. Today the ANM administration told a press conference that the party has been a part of the European Liberal-Democratic-Reformist Party since March 12. The party is highly representative in the PACE, the European Parliament and other European organizations. It has 4 prime ministers, tens of ministers and hundreds of deputies.
The ANM will be represented by president of the ANM Ararat Zurabyan and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Arzumanyan, while delegates of the PACE will present the concerns of the ANM. Alexander Arzumanyan is certain that membership will provide broader opportunities in the fight for freedom of political prisoners.
Vice-chairman of the party Khachatur Kokobelyan took note that it doesn't matter to the Armenian authorities what European organizations will think about the country. "They don't understand what international reputation is, what the image of the country is. If they did, they wouldn't do what they did on "March 1".
Ararat Zurabyan and Alexander Arzumanyan touched upon inter-political issues. Zurabyan announced: "The precondition for Robert Kocharyan to come to power in 1998 was to leave Karabakh out of the negotiations process."
According to Zurabyan, Kocharyan was faced with the precondition in France. Let us remind that French Co-Chair Bernard Fassie is frequently talking about Kocharyan's decision to leave the NKR out of the negotiations.
Ararat Zurabyan used that to explain "Europe tolerating Kocharyan's lack of a passport and a notice of 10-year residence in Armenia."
Alexander Arzumanyan said once again that there is no proposition in the Madrid Principles that is in the interests of the Armenian side and the RA government is waiting for something to change.
