The Public TV of Armenia will screen “Sumgait, February, 1988: An Ordinary Genocide” documentary Saturday at 10:30pm (local time). It is part of "An Ordinary Genocide" series.

The film is based on documentary materials, including exclusive video materials, photo documents, witness evidence, materials on investigation and legal proceedings, shown for the first time, not only to unveil the truth on what actually happened in Sumgait but also to prove that the events were organized by Azerbaijan’s authorities and special services with participation of the Soviet Union leadership.

Chess: 2010 US Championship gets underway

2010 US Championship, featuring the Armenian chess players GM Varuzhan Hakobian, GM Melikset Khachiyan, IM Levon Altounian, got underway in Saint Louis May 14.

24 chess players are taking part in the tournament. 20 Grandmasters, including Nakamura, Kamksy, Onishchuk, Shulman, Ehlvest, Christiansen are playing in Saint Louis, Armenian Chess Federation informs.

President Sargsyan receives Jacques Diouf

Vladimir Akopian sustains another defeat

Armenian grandmaster Vladimir Akopian lost to Pavel Elyanov (Ukraine) in the 2nd round of Men's Grand Prix in Astrakhan, Russia. After the defeat, Akopian shares the 9-14th places with four chess players with 0.5 points.

In the 3rd round, Akopian will rival another outsider of the tournament Peter Svidler (Russia)

Bicycle race drive

Forty bicycle racers from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (20 from each republic) will participate in a bicycle race from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh which launched today at Republic Square in Armenia.

The bicycle racers of which the youngest is 12 years old and the oldest is 17 will reach the border with Karabakh where they will be joined by local athletes and will be in all cities of Nagorno-Karabakh within 6 days.

Bako Sahakyan rates high

On 10 May President of the Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan met managers and representatives of several committees and offices of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation- Dashnaktsutyun's Hay Dat at the head of member of the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun bureau Hakob Ter-Khachatryan.

Bako Sahakyan rated high the efforts of the Hay Dat directed to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, defending rights of the Armenian people and preserving Armenian national identity in the Diaspora.

"Sasuntsi David" detachment suffered no human losses during Shushi liberation

The founder of “Sasuntsi David” detachment Hamlet Hovsepyan was in Yerablur today with freedom fighters. He told Panorama.am reporter that his detachment fought for Shushi liberation but suffered no human losses.

“This heroic participation is also my victory,” Hamlet Hovsepyan said.

Arkadi Ter-Tadevosyan also participated in the fights as the detachment member. According to H. Hovsepyan, though with no casualties during Shushi liberation fight, the detachment had 29 deaths during the whole fight for liberty.

The commander said they have “not a single inch of land” to hand.
